Official 2026 NMJL Payout Settlement Table

American Mahjong uses a base-point system printed next to every hand line on the official card:

Hand Type Base Points Discard Win (Winner Gets) Self-Draw Win (Winner Gets) Jokerless Self-Draw
Standard Exposed (X) 25 pts 100 pts (50+25+25) 150 pts (50+50+50) 300 pts (100+100+100)
Concealed Hand (C) 30–35 pts 120–140 pts 180–210 pts 360–420 pts
Quints (5-Tile Melds) 40–45 pts 160–180 pts 240–270 pts 480–540 pts
Singles & Pairs (C) 50 pts 200 pts (100+50+50) 300 pts (100+100+100) 300 pts (Already Jokerless)

The Four Core Payout Multipliers Explained

1. The Discard Liability Rule (2x Discarder, 1x Others)

When a player claims a fresh discard to declare Mahjong, the discarder is held responsible and pays double ($2\times$ base points). The other two non-winning players at the table pay single ($1\times$ base points).

2. The Self-Drawn Wall Double (2x from All Players)

When a player draws their own 14th tile directly from the working wall, every non-winning player at the table pays double ($2\times$ base points).

3. The Jokerless Hand Bonus (2x Total Value)

Any hand on the NMJL card that permits Jokers but is achieved with 100% natural tiles is awarded the Jokerless Double. Note: Hands in the Singles & Pairs category already forbid Jokers and therefore do not receive an extra doubling bonus.

4. Third Exposure Table Liability (Full Table Penalty)

If an opponent has 3 exposed melds on their rack that unambiguously define only one possible winning hand on the official NMJL card, any player who discards that specific winning tile is penalized with Table Liability and must pay for all three non-winning players at the table.
